The 8900 door closer series designed to provide a highly flexible door control system suitable for institutional or high-traffic commercial applications. Its hydraulic control system features a full range spring power adjustment and backcheck, along with a narrow projection full cover and flatform style arm.

The 8956 has a field adjustable spring power from size 5 to 6 plus 50% additional closing force over the size 6 for barrier-free requirements. All 8956 fully adjustable spring force door closers to include an integral design to positively stop adjustment of the spring at the minimum and maximum spring force settings. Standard with special rust inhibitor (SRI) for added protection against corrosive environments.

The 8956 Series closer is the same as 8656 with one key difference: Thinking Backcheck. This feature allows the closer to self-adjust to varying conditions, thereby increasing the life of the closer.  It is common to see a building that uses 8656 closers for most interior doors and 8956 for exterior.  From the outside the two closers look the same. It is suitable for high traffic doors.
